The defendant confessed to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

An individual who spiked treats with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two boys who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his worries.

She explained the defendant proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"The police had not responded by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the events.

Mrs Prior stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities a second time.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five children.
